Great Pick-Up Lines

Want to pick up your business? Knowing what to say and when to say it may make all the difference. Here are the six best business pick-up lines. Ever.

#1. Gift Certificate Enclosed.
With a very high perceived value, Gift Certificates are inexpensive to print, inexpensive to mail and may be targeted to sell specific merchandise to get rid of overstock or high margin items.

Best yet, they are trackable. You know how many you put in the mail; you know how many you redeemed. Even a junior high student can determine your response rate.

#2. FREE Offer inside
This line works almost as well as “Gift Certificate Enclosed,” but be sure that the offer has some real value to the recipient.

Plan A: Send everybody on your file the same Offer, but be sure it is universal. Grocery stores can give away a dozen eggs; car dealers can use a free oil change; laundries can clean a shirt for free, etc.

Plan B: Segment your data and send different free offers to different list segments, based on their presumed interests and needs. Send the FREE dog squeaky toy offer to dog owners and a FREE catnip toy offer to cat owners.

Plan C: Test two offers against each other to determine which pulls best. Send half the file an offer for a 5-lb bag of flour. Send half the file an offer for a dozen oranges.

#3. OPEN IMMEDIATELY!
Works almost as well as “Gift Certificate Enclosed” but be sure that there is a logical reason to open the envelope immediately.

Use a time-limited offer (coupon valid through ____) or “the first 100 people only will receive ______” or another compelling reason to explain the offer’s immediacy.

#4. Call us TOLL FREE.
If you tell them what you want them to do, they will do it. Be sure your operators are prepped.

#5. New and Improved! Cleans 50% better than before!
People want to know about new products and services or old favorites that are improved. Always have. Always will. Of course, you’ll need to back up your claim with facts. They’ll believe you once, but if your product fails to perform, you’ve lost them.

#6. FREE Information!
People love free information. It makes them feel important. It gives them confidence of their decisions. That’s what Whitepapers are all about, after all. It’s consulting without the hefty fee.

Smarmy guys in bars use pick-up lines because they work. Smart marketers use them for the same reason. They get results.

“Free Offer Inside” sure beats “What’s a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?”

Don’t cha think?
